2nd Tim.6:22' Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness,faith,love, peace , with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.' We all must seek to develop these character qualities that we are called to 'follow' in this bible verse! Notice is says to 'flee' and to 'follow'.
1.CHARACTER IS WHO YOU REALLY ARE ! Your reputation is often a good indicator of your character.That is what are we reflecting to others and how we live our daily lives in front of others.Are you consistent in your walk with Christ?We should not live in such a way that others can point at us and say that we are not living a life that is right and honest and with integrity.We can confess Christ to outsiders but if we deny Christ in how we conduct ourselves then their assessment of us will be one that will be correct.This will turn people away from the Lord.
Titus 1:16"They profess that they know God,but in works they deny Him, being abominable and disobedient , and unto every good work reprobate."
2.But if we live and follow Christ even though the ungodly say evil about us our character will be pleasing and acceptable to the Lord.
1st Peter 2:12"Having your conversation [conduct] honest among the Gentiles:that whereas they speak against you as evil doers,they may by your good works,which they behold , glorify God in the day of visitation."
3.Character is who you are now,but you are to continue to grow in godly character. Character 'who you are' will be your influence on other people.There is a crisis of godly character in the last days.
4.Takes work to develop godly character in today's culture that's main interest is in outward looks and personality.We work hard our entire lives to be excellent in our careers ,hobbies,etc .But do we strive to grow in godly character?
5.Does it not make sense to work hard at becoming morally excellent,to be known as a person who has developed attributes that really matter,such as integrity,kindness, humility,faithfulness,godl
7.Godly character gives credibility to your life and witness !The fruit of the Spirit are some of the essential traits of a godly character.[Gal.5:22-23]God
8.You will grow in godly character through facing daily tests and challenges and by overcoming trials and adversity,by resisting temptation and by daily walking with God in prayer,worship,obedience and time in the Word.
Your character grows only when life's pressures push against it and tests its strength.No easy fast way to develop in godly character .[Read Rom 5:1-4 ,James1:2-4]
9.2nd Peter 1:5-8 Tells us to give all diligence to grow in these character qualities:"And beside this giving all diligence ,add to your faith virtue ,and to virtue knowledge,and to knowledge temperance ,and to temperance patience godliness and to godliness brotherly kindness charity.For if these things be in you and abound ,they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Are you growing in godliness,self-control and endurance?
10.THIS IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY BUT WE HAVE THE HELP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT SO WE HAVE NO EXCUSES DO WE ? We may pretend and try to fool others by being something we are not, but when you are at home , when no one is looking that's when real character is seen .We can put on a good face at Church but then come home and yell at our children , act nasty to our spouse , watch things on TV that are disgusting or do things on the Internet that grieve the Lord.Some have bad character and try to hide it.We must have godly character and be consistent in walking in integrity at all times and in all places.A person with godly character does not have to wear a mask -he is real !
